Hello, hi.
Thanks for swinging by. Why a website? Why now?
Well, the urge to move away from social media and invest in a space that is mine (ish) and by virtue, yours (ish) and ours (ish) has been growing for some time.
I have watched My Space (though I don’t put it in the same evil bracket as the others) and then Facebook and now Instagram become monoliths and one by one, absorb us into their world, reshape our culture and minds and then start to become obsolete.
The last year and a half has been at points one of the hardest and most rewarding of my life. I remember someone saying that during the pandemic it was like humanity was switched on to HD and that sticks with me. The highs can be higher but the lows, equally seem to shapeshift in new ways, perhaps its getting older too.
I have increasingly felt drawn to make things that are physical and tangible in an attempt to try and reclaim a semblance of independence and balance. I often feel averse to sharing things on social media, it feels at times calculated, pointless and beyond that feels like giving them our magic. I have (at times) considered deleting it all together but realise its still useful even if just as a way to share select information and bear witness to what is going on around the world, in Palestine, Sudan, Congo and to the Trans Community amongst others.
I want this to be a space where I can share all kinds of things, its not just about telling you about “Midland” but a place to talk about mixes I love, share some writing by friends and I as well as all sorts of miscellaneous cultural bits and bobs. One of the main catalysts to build this was to share my photos a bit more freely, which for the reasons I mention above I have stopped sharing. Big thanks to Megan Macdonald for the help designing this. I hope that by making something more personal and intentional, it will be more enriching than the eternal scroll, so please sign up for the occasional update/ news letter if you feel inclined.
